Review of Assignment 2 against the assessment criteria

  • Demonstration of Technical and visual skills materials, techniques, observational

I feel I have used a wide range of materials and techniques within work for this assignment. All my work came from observational drawings or observations of items I was drawing.

  • Quality of outcome content, application of knowledge, presentation of work in a coherent manner, discernment, conceptualisation of thoughts, communication of ideas.

I feel the outcome and content of my samples and experiments were good and I applied the knowledge that I have acquired to fulfill the brief of the projects set within the course materials well. I also showed discernment in my selection of source material for those projects and communicated my ideas through development of the samples from the original sources. My work has been presented in a coherrant manner by labeling all samples and experiments accordingly.

  •  Demonstration of Creativity imagination, experimentation, invention, development of a personal voice.

I am yet to develop a personal voice as I am following the course materials closely. I am hoping I can show more of my self in the upcoming projects. I feel I have used quite a lot of experimentation during these projects. I also used inventive combinations such as the buttons sample combining digital and mono printing together.

  • context reflection, research, critical thinking

I am starting to get better at reflection although I still have some way to go. My research is also starting to improve and I am trying to find more time for this.

About Julie Hooker

Having recently returned to my roots in Surrey, I am currently studying a BA Hons degree with the OCA. My work is often inspired by the local countryside in the beautiful Surrey Hills area and the wild rugged nature of the North Cornish coast. Steam engines and abandoned industrial history are also recent themes. A free machine embroiderer and felt maker; I like to explore the use of natural, found materials to create my art, whether that be as raw materials to stitch or weave with or as a material with which to produce dye or print with. Previously, I completed City and Guilds parts 1 & 2 Creative Embroidery at the East Berkshire College in Windsor in 2007. I was also awarded first place in the wearable art section of the National Quilt Championships 2008 and 2009 held annually at Sandown Park.
